Information & Education Committee
Purpose
The Information & Education Committee coordinates the
Association's informational activities. The Committee promotes public
education about biosolids management options and provides continuing
education programs for members.
The Information & Education Committee usually works on specific projects or events. Recent activities of this committee have included:
- Made an NBMA video, Biosolids: The Growth of Recycling
- Hosted workshops included a Regional Biosolids Information Networks Workshop, describing how an organization like the NBMA can facilitate information-sharing on a regional level
- Published the monthly Biosolids eBulletin newsletter, to facilitate timely information dissemination to NBMA members, regional regulators and other interested parties
- Printed 30,000 copies of a full color NBMA folder/brochure for handing out information about the organization and biosolids recycling in general
- Wrote fact sheets about biosolids uses to be used in the folders
- Developed biosolids recycling information kiosks for the University of Washington Pack Forest Biosolids Recycling Demonstration Area and for the Washington State University Demonstration Garden
- Created a self-guided trail brochure for the University of Washington Pack Forest Biosolids Recycling Demonstration Area
- Collaborated with the Pacific Northwest Clean Water Association to develop an advertisement/public service announcement promoting biosolids recycling for Earth Day publication in member city newspapers
- Worked with a Future Farmers of America chapter to promote biosolids recycling projects, and presented seminars to teachers about biosolids recycling
- Developed the NBMA website and, prior to that, ran an electronic bulletin board system
- Sent speakers to conferences and workshops on behalf of the NBMA
- Cosponsored Risk Perception and Risk Communication seminar with the Pacific Northwest Pollution Control Association
- Sponsored display booths at a variety of events including the North Central Washington Fair in Douglas County, Washington, demonstrating the benefits of biosolids reuse in agriculture
