Introduction: 

The degradation of soil is one of the most understated issues the world faces today—though the soil allows us to sustain ourselves, we rarely consider its importance. Poor soil quality decreases crop yield and quality while increasing the use of water and risk of plant disease. In order to amend their soil, many farmers use synthetic fertilizers, these fertilizers are generally made up of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium.
