Alaska Announces PFAS Stance
On April 9, 2019, the State of Alaska announced that they would be aligning their state action plan for PFAS with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA). This revised stance supersedes the DEC PFAS Action Plan released in November 2018.
In our November 2018 Biosolids eBulletin, Northwest Biosolids reported on the proposed cleanup levels for PFAS released by the State of Alaska. These levels would easily exceed concentrations in every biosolids and most compost products - even some certified organic composts. Concerned that these proposed standards were being initiated without a national U.S. EPA approved method, a collective of organizations sent a comment letter to the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation. Access the Alaska PFAS comment letter sent on behalf of organic amendment producers, Northwest Biosolids, North East Biosolids & Residuals Association, U.S. Composting Council and Washington Organic Recycling Council.
