National Biosolids Meeting
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Biosolids Program hosted a National Biosolids Meeting in December to engage State Biosolids Coordinators and biosolids stakeholders from across the country in a dialog on the future of the national biosolids program. The last meeting was held 10 years ago. The 3-day meeting included a blend of presentations by EPA and State Programs as well as facilitated breakout group discussions focused on the following key biosolids regulatory topics:
•    Chemical and Microbial Methods for Meeting Part 503 Requirements
•    Considerations for Resource Recovery
•    Experiences in Risk Communications
•    Thermal Technologies: Incineration, Pyrolysis and Gasification
•    Surface Disposal and Storage Approaches, Planning and Challenges
•    Continuity and Institutional Knowledge Transfer within Biosolids Programs
•    (Non-PFAS!) Current Challenges for State and Tribal Biosolids Programs
Presentations featured updates on current EPA work areas, biosolids research snapshots, PFAS in biosolids risk assessment, and state program spotlights on PFAS impacts. The meeting allowed for virtual networking across the biosolids sector and interactive discussions where participants could share their related experiences. For example, the risk assessment presentation was helpful in putting this important work into perspective and allowing participants to ask questions directly during to those leading the effort at EPA.

The meeting objective focused on identifying, aligning, and supporting biosolids program efforts across the U.S. A final report will be available in early 2021.
